DUA AFTER AZAN

The primary and most well-known supplication (dua) to recite after hearing the complete Azan is the invocation asking Allah to grant Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Al-Waseelah and the praised station, which guarantees his intercession on the Day of Judgment. [1, 2]

After the Mu’adhdhin finishes the call to prayer, specific steps and authentic supplications comprise the complete Sunnah practice.

Recommended Steps After Hearing the Azan

  • Repeat the Words: Silently or softly repeat each phrase after the Mu’adhdhin.
  • Modify the Response: When the Mu’adhdhin says “Hayya ‘ala-s-salah” (Come to prayer) and “Hayya ‘ala-l-falah” (Come to success), respond with “La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah” (There is no power and no strength except with Allah).
  • Send Salawat: Recite blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ immediately after the Azan concludes.
  • Recite the Duas: Proceed with the authentic post-Azan supplications. [3, 4]

1. The Main Dua for the Prophet’s Intercession

As narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 614, reciting this dua ensures the Prophet’s intercession on the Day of Resurrection. [1]

  • English Translation:
O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the Waseelah (a high rank in Paradise) and distinction, and resurrect him to the praised position that You have promised him. [1, 2]

2. The Dua for the Forgiveness of Minor Sins

As narrated in Sahih Muslim 386, reciting this specific declaration when hearing the Azan leads to the forgiveness of minor sins. [3, 5]

  • English Translation:
I testify that there is no true God but Allah alone with no partners, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. I am content with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad ﷺ as my messenger, and with Islam as my religion.
