2. WHAT IS ISLAM?

Islam (الإسلام) means submission and surrender to the will of Allah (God).

  • Linguistically: Salaam (peace) — Islam brings peace by submitting to Allah.
  • Technically: It is the final, complete divine religion revealed through Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
  • It is the same message brought by all prophets — from Adam (AS) to Muhammad ﷺ.

The Qur’an states: “Today I have perfected your Deen for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your Deen.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:3)


3. WHAT IS SHARIYAT?

Shariyat (الشريعة) literally means a clear path, a way to water — the source of life.

  • It is the divine law/code of conduct revealed by Allah for humanity.
  • It covers:
    • Ibadat (worship): Salah, Fasting, Zakat, Hajj
    • Mu’amalat (transactions): Business, marriage, inheritance, contracts
    • Akhlaq (morality): Honesty, kindness, justice
  • The sources of Shariyat are: Qur’an, Sunnah, Ijma (consensus), and Qiyas (analogy).

4. WHAT IS NABI AND WHAT IS RASOOL?

17. WHAT IS IEMAN-E-MUJMIL?

Iman-e-Mujmil (الإيمان المجمل) means faith in summary / concise declaration of faith.

Arabic Text: آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ كَمَا هُوَ بِأَسْمَائِهِ وَصِفَاتِهِ، وَقَبِلْتُ جَمِيعَ أَحْكَامِهِ

Translation: “I believe in Allah as He is with His names and attributes, and I accept all His commands.”

This is a brief, overall affirmation of faith without going into details.


18. WHAT IS IEMAN-E-MUFFASSIL?

Iman-e-Muffassil (الإيمان المفصل) means faith in detail — a detailed declaration of the six articles of faith.

Arabic Text: آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ، وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ، وَكُتُبِهِ، وَرُسُلِهِ، وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ، وَالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى، وَالْبَعْثِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ

Translation: “I believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and in Divine Decree — both good and bad — from Allah, and in the resurrection after death.”


19. WHO IS MUSLIM, MOMIN, KAAFIR, MUSHRIK, AND MUNAFIQ?

20. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A MUSLIM/MOMIN/HUMAN BEING ON EARTH?

The role is best defined as Khalifatullah fil-ArdVicegerent of Allah on Earth.

Key responsibilities:

  • Worship Allah: The primary purpose (“I created jinn and humans only to worship Me” — Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56)
  • Be a witness to truth and justice
  • Establish good (Amr bil Ma’ruf) and forbid evil (Nahi anil Munkar)
  • Take care of the earth — be a trustee, not a destroyer
  • Serve humanity with kindness, justice, and compassion
  • Spread peace and be a mercy to all creation

21. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE?

The Qur’an gives the clear answer:

Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:56): “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me (alone).”

The purpose of life is:

  1. To know Allah (Ma’rifat) — recognize the Creator
  2. To worship Allah (Ibadah) — in the broadest sense (living life according to His guidance)
  3. To be tested — this world is a test: “Who has created death and life that He may test you which of you is best in deed.” (Surah Al-Mulk 67:2)
  4. To earn eternal success in the Hereafter (Jannah)

22. WHAT ARE THE SOURCES OF ISLAMIC KNOWLEDGE?

The primary sources of Islamic knowledge are:

  • Major schools of Fiqh (Madhahib):

24. WHAT IS MEESAQ? AND WHERE IS IT MENTIONED?

Meesaq (ميثاق) means Covenant / Pledge / Agreement.

  • It refers to the primordial covenant taken by Allah from all human souls before their birth.
  • Allah asked: “Am I not your Lord?” (أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ)
  • They replied: “Yes, we bear witness.” (بَلَىٰ شَهِدْنَا)

Where is it mentioned?

It is mentioned in Surah Al-A’raf (7:172):

“And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam — from their loins — their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying], ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes, we have testified.’ [This] lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Indeed, we were of this unaware.'”


25. WHAT IS SEERAT-UN-NABI?

Seerat-un-Nabi (سيرة النبي) means Biography of the Prophet — the life story of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

  • It covers his life from birth (570 CE in Makkah) to his death (632 CE in Madinah).
  • Includes:
    • His character, manners, and habits
    • His struggles, battles, and treaties
    • His family, companions, and relationships
    • The revelation of the Qur’an
    • His teachings and leadership
  • Famous books: Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum (The Sealed Nectar), Ibn Hisham’s Seerah

26. WHAT ARE AHADEES? AQWAL AND A’AMAL OF THE LAST MESSENGER?

Ahadees (plural of Hadith) (أحاديث) means reports/narrations of what the Prophet ﷺ said, did, or approved.
